Meal Plan: January Week 1 Results and Week 2 Plan

The results from Week 1:

Initial plan:
What we actually ate:

Friday: Pizza with Sausage and Peppers: Made some pizza dough and let the kids make some individual pizzas. Took out the sausages (costco pack) so used a couple here and a couple throughout the other meals. Beets on the side as the plastic container of pickled beets fell out of the fridge and cracked, requiring immediate consumption.

The adult pizza. Leftovers did lunch on Sunday.
Saturday: Lasagna  and baked bread
Sauted up all the ground beef as I'd frozen the 2 kg package whole. Also Added in about 4 sausages defrosted yesterday. Made 1 large and 1 small lasagna, one container of spagetti sauce, and froze two bags of cooked ground beef with veggies to use as a starter for other recipes down the road.
Ground beef sauted with onions, mushrooms, carrots and celery.

Sunday: Leftover lasagna and fried up the  remaining sausage for the cabbage skillet so it wouldn't go bad in the fridge.

  • Monday: Cabbage and Sausage Skillet
  • Tuesday: Spaghetti with left over lasagna sauce

  •  Wednesday:  Sweet and sour pork

  • Thursday: Pork chops with pan sauce based off of Marla's Maple Pork with mandarin oranges thrown in and sauted up, Mashed Potatoes, Carrots and Broccoli

What we spent:
Costco: $43
Superstore: $15

Total: $58. Our average monthly spend last year was $725 and I'm aiming for $700 this year, which works out to about $160/week. Will call this success for eating down the freezer and pantry. Did end up tossing a few left-overs and forgotten items worth aout $6. Goal this year is to reduce the waste.
