Jalie Nikita

Finally I get to share some of the patterns I was fortunate enough to test for Jalie this past winter. Hardest part is not sharing anything till they are released in the Spring!

First up is Nikita.

Description: Tank with front yoke and keyhold racer back. The unique hem is easy to sew and adds a modern touch to the garment. Swing Dress, mid-thigh lenght, with closed racer back. Armholes on both views finished with bands.

This is such a cute top/dress and I can't wait to make one for me. I made two for my daughter. The pattern calls for very drapy fabrics, and the first version I made had a bit more body, but I figured it would be ok in a child size. Adult size I'd definitely wouldn't want this sticking stiffly out from my body.

My daughter is 5 and wears a size 5 in RTW but in Jalie Sizes is an F (size 2) with extra length added. To the first version I added 2 inches, but this only makes it tunic length. I added 4 or 5 inches to the 2nd version seen below.

A few details: Rainbow and pink fabric are interlock (I think, I picked them up at a charity fabric sale so no details given). They are rather stiff and not a ton of recovery, but I loved how the colours went together and think as a top, rather than dress this is so cute on her. I do make her wear shorts with it as it doesn't provide quite enough butt coverage for an active kid as is.

The back cut out is a lovely detail and the burrito method to hide the interior seams leads to such nice finishing.

Please forgive the juice stains.. MissBirdie really enjoyed the slushies in Mexico!!

As mentioned above I added another couple inches to the 2nd version and bought some rayon to get a bit more drape as suggested by the pattern. I love it so much! I can't wait to do up one for myself! I could definitely see living in this all summer long!

I did the closed back on this dress as my daughter like me has very fair skin and though it's such a cute detail, it's another spot to burn on her back. I'm way too practical sometimes!
