Letter to my MLA


My 3 year old in a fit of rage last night claimed Christmas has covid! Christmas is cancelled!  Even he gets it. The UCP have let this virus get out of control and continue to blame it on personal responsibility. I’ve stayed home, I’ve cancelled get togethers for months, I wear a mask every where I go. There is not more I can do than keep my kids home from school, but they need school. 

What have you done to protect your constituents? What are you doing to prevent the spread of covid in our businesses and schools? What are you doing to protect our hospital capacity? 


I’m honestly curious. People are sick and dying so one would guess you’d be very busy taking care to represent all your constituents. Please let me know how you are ensuring my town is safe, because it’s very hard to tell from here.

Sewing Plan update - I love my dress!

The sewing plan progress has slowed down as I've been working through muslining the new patterns before cutting my good fabric. I'm not sure I love the muslins but I'm glad to have a bit more of the crappy fabric out of my stash and saved some heartbreak with my good fabric. Before I go into a lengthy post about my process (just kidding, I'll be fairly brief and just show more pictures) here's the final result of the Jalie Rachel dress. I was pretty nervous to cut up this fabric as I really love it so I did make a muslin first. I'm still trying to figure out my proportions and adjustments to make. I have a longer torso and a slightly lower bust line so I added 1 inch at the upper lengthen line and 1 inch to the hem line. Two-Weeks in... We're surviving and it's getting a little better

Our lives have been focused on physical distancing to help flatten the covid-19 pandemic curve for two weeks now. It's been tough. We've all hit our limits at different points. Emotions are running high and little things set us all off now that previously everyone worked through calmly. The first week trying to balance work and kids at home was intense. I was starting at 6:30 am and finishing up around 4:30 to account for the distractions they bring. PapaBird still was going into the office most days so it was just me at home. It just felt like work never ended, that I was ignoring my kids all day and generally failing at life. Previous to this I felt I had figured our lives out. We knew our routine and life was good. I tried some of the schedules floating round the various mom's groups, hoping it would give us some structure. I threw that out by day 3 after we only followed it for a morning. Favourite Pattern Series: Jalie 3355

 Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a massive Jalie fan. A year or two ago they did a series on Jalie basics and how their patterns are the building blocks of a wardrobe. I was thinking of this as I sewed up my 15th (? not sure of the actual count, but it's been many) pair of sweat pants from Jalie 3355 . It got me thinking about the best value patterns and this one is definitely up there, especially if you have kids. I thought it would be fun (well, rewarding for me to see all my projects in one post) to showcase all I've done with this pattern. And I haven't actually started to modify it or colour block it as I've seen others do.
